Important Mono Questions And Answers - Learn all You Can About The Kissing Disease

It used to be called the Kissing Disease and throughout elementary, junior high and high school its name was often mentioned. It was often thrown about with nary a care and used as a disparaging remark. You may remember the school yard taunting of “Betty has mono”, “Kim has mono” or “Greg gave Sherry mono”. Whichever way it was said it was never a good thing. Mono is a genuine concern to youngsters and one that more people should know about. Read further to find out more.

In this article, we will answer many questions regarding this illness. In doing so we hope to give children and parents alike a much better grasp on this so-called ‘rite of passage’ sickness. Sit back and learn about mononucleosis, better known as mono.

What exactly is mono?
Mononucleosis, or mono for short, is a viral infection that typically affects children and young adults. Most have heard of this insidious illness.

What is its cause?
The cause of mono is the Epstein-Barr virus and the cytomegalovirus. Often times, viral infections are more difficult to treat than bacterial infections.

How is it spread?
Mono is mainly spread through the exchange of saliva, hence its old-fashioned name of the Kissing Disease. Due to the fact that children and young adults are experimenting with their sexuality through kissing their friends, this age group is particularly vulnerable.

How can one catch it?
As previously mentioned, kissing is a main mode of transmission as is the sharing of utensils, as in a spoon for ice cream or some other treat that children and young adults often partake in. One can catch mono by even the simple act of holding hands with an infected individual.

How long is the contagious period?
The contagious period of mono is up to two full months. This gives children and young adults ample time to spread the virus while at school, at social activities, or merely by staying at home around family members.

What are the symptoms?
Mono has several different symptoms, amongst which the main ones being sore throat and fever. Along with these symptoms fatigue also plays a large role. Depending on the severity of the infection, and the infected one’s age, spleen problems may also arise.

How long does it last?
Mono symptoms may last up to four or so weeks. Energy levels can typically take much longer to rise.

Can I get it more than once?
As with any virus it is typically caught once in a lifetime, if that. In some very rare cases individuals have been known to be re-infected, but they are very few and far between.

How will I know it if I have it?
A standard test can, and should, be performed by your internist to ascertain if one has Mononucleosis infection.

Is it a big deal if I am positive for it?
No, generally mono is not a huge problem and will get better over time. Unfortunately, sometimes complications from the viral infection will arise thus making it a health concern for the infected party.

If you are in the New York City area and would like to see a doctor regarding a suspected case of mono please log onto WalkInClinicNY.com. Forget Forbidden Fruit: Bite into the Big Apple’s Walk in Clinic

“An apple a day keeps the doctor away,” or so goes the old proverb. The question remains though, does it work? Nutritionally, they’re definitely good for you: boron for your bone strength, quercetin for brain cell and memory retention, pectin for bad cholesterol reduction and diabetes management, quercetin and naringin flavinoids for lung cancer prevention and phytonutrients galore.
Oh and don’t forget the best part: the average apple costs you only 81 calories. So aside from the nutritional value and disease prevention, you could probably just diet with this gravity inspiring fruit.
Nonetheless, in spite of the health benefits, it must be said that it takes more than apples to keep away the doctor. It’s true that they are key to good health, but so are other fruits: bananas have potassium, blackberries carry fiber, strawberries contain both, and apricots bear beta-carotene. Doctors will tell you a varied diet is essential. (Moreover, if you have apples everyday, I think you’d get tired pretty quickly).
Still skeptical? Trees supply apples and medical clinic provide internist, but only one can cure you once you’re injured or infected. (Guess which?) Apples can’t heal you after scraping your knee or a mosquito infecting you with yellow fever. Mind, they can help, (since you’ve got a stronger body) but only a doctor can mend you.
You can find them in medical office across the country, whether you need heart help or minor injury attention. Forget the old adage about apples; you’ll need those medical offices to be completely healthy.
If you’re looking for the doctor, try our medical office located at 274 Madison Ave, New York, NY. No matter how many apples you eat, you’ll need to see one eventually. For more information, take a look at our website at walk in clinic NYC

Searching For The Right Walk in Clinic? How To Make the Correct Choice

When looking for a medical office to visit when something bad happens, the average American has many choices. We really do have loads of choices for a variety of things here in America. If you feel like eating Chinese one night, Brazilian the next, and Italian the following, there’s no shortage of eating establishments that can satiate our culinary cravings. And so it should be for other things, such as health care.

Of course there are many different options out there when searching for a medical office, but some are infinitely better than others. Let’s begin with the hospital emergency room, shall we?  Oh, we all know what a bummer it can be to visit one of these. Whether it’s the long wait or the fact that you get to witness untold amounts of people jump ahead of you because their problem is deemed more of an emergency than yours is, most people find something lacking in the experience. Worst of all, would be the fact that many people leave hospital emergency rooms sicker then when they went in.

Secondly there are high-end primary care for those with loads of money. A doctor’s care should never be relegated to how much money you make, but we also understand the reality of living in this great country of ours. Money talks, this is the reality. Yet when it comes to an industry such as health care, remember that there are many well-intentioned individuals who are in it for much more than the money. It is very possible to find a world-class medical office for less than expensive prices.

A medical office should always impart a feeling of well-being and security. One should never second guess the safety and resolve of their regularly visited medical office. Lately there has been a spate of excellent walk in clinics that have popped up across America in general—and in the big cities in particular.

A walk in clinic is an excellent example of a potentially superb medical office. Many of these clinics accept a large variety of medical insurance, but also offer a pricing structure particularly sensitive to the needs of the individual who is not currently covered by insurance. Face it, no matter what the media portrays, the bulk of doctors out there have a calling and want to help people before they want to get rich.

A good medical office—or walk in clinic—will have a board-certified doctor running the show. This is the exact same type of doctor you will likely see when visiting any other type of top of the line professional medical facility. The plus of visiting a medical office such as a walk in clinic, is that the doctor gets to spend a bunch more time with their individual patients—and when that patient is you, you know the difference!

There’s nothing better than visiting a medical office where you do not feel rushed. Even when there are other patients waiting, a sign of a great health care professional is to make you feel at ease, not rushed, and given the time and respect that your visit deserves. We all deserve a medical office of this caliber.

If you happen to live in the NYC area and are looking for a medical office that can fulfill all of the above, find medical clinic. Located just blocks from Grand Central Station, this discreet and professional facility is run by a board -certified doctor who has earned the respect of a vast majority of his patients (as seen by his return/patient ratios). Simply log onto internist or call 1-212-696-5900. Great service, most insurance, affordable prices—give us a call. We’re waiting to heal you.

Busy? Urgent care clinic is the solution

Remember the old days? White coats, bright lights, latex scented, listening to each time the clock hands moved. Someone would bring you to the doctor’s office for a checkup and afterwards you would be rewarded with a lollipop for your patience. That was the end of it. Nowadays it’s hard enough to just schedule an appointment. With all the things you have to do, why not try a walk in clinic?
Ever feel like childhood was so much easier? More space, more freedom, and more time. As adults, our schedules are crammed: wake up, shower, make breakfast, feed the dog, dress for work, take the kids to school, commute to work, commute to home, pick up the kids, buy groceries, make dinner, pack lunch, walk the dog, wash the dishes, take out the garbage, tuck in the kids, back to bed.
Add on the weekly laundry, house cleaning, phone calls, family visits, random friend hangouts, work emergencies, etc. and you’re officially booked. Now try to schedule in your next medical doctor’s appointment. Are you told that you need to wait a week, two, three, or even a month later? And once you’re there, how much more time do you need to wait to be seen?
Forget scheduling and remember leisure! Time is precious as it is and should not be wasted. As Doug Larson puts it, “For disappearing acts, it's hard to beat what happens to the eight hours supposedly left after eight of sleep and eight of work.”  Oftentimes, we work ourselves half to death trying to fit everything into the week and then end up sick for stressing about it. Yet there’s still no time for break and we chug down all the medicine we can find in the cold aisle. Thoughts are blurred, focus lost, and the temperature is rising. Before you know it, you can get into an accident more serious than the common cold.
Urgent care clinic are essential for those sudden scrapes, scratches, or burns, and can even offer you something to take care of that cold faster. Availability and convenience are written into the definition and appointments can be scheduled on the same day with immediate care. No waiting for the secretary to schedule you two weeks later and no waiting at the ER for “immediate help” that comes two hours later.
In the past as kids, we didn’t have responsibilities. Everything was set up for us and all we had to do was follow what we were told. And for that we got a lollipop for a reward. As adults, we need to plan everything. Even our free time is taken up planning for our plans. By then, you know your schedule is definitely overloaded. Don’t let that carry through to your health as well.
Walk in clinics will save you both money and time, with the added bonus of friendly service. For those lighter injuries, burns, or illnesses, you can get that immediate care you’re desperate for without those frustrating delays.
So if you’re in Manhattan and feeling burdened down by your schedule, drop by Midtown Medical Group and find an internist, located at 274 Madison Avenue. Too busy to physically come? Take a look at our website walk-in clinic NYC for more information to schedule your appointment at our walk-in clinic today.

You ignore, We Cure. Doctors at Your Local Walk In Clinic

Fall is the season of change. Leaves turn from green into the autumnal reds and golden hues, temperatures fall rapidly bringing out the new fashion trends, and cold culinary delights are eaten less frequently in favor of the warm ones. People change as well.
For those going through the education system, fall means the start of a new school year. Those in America’s workforce see the end of sunny vacation time as the summer eclipses. And of course, what’s fall without the seasonal cold and/or flu?
We often prep for fall long before it begins, bringing out the scarves and jackets, drinking hot teas and soups, and converting our mindsets to the long drive into winter. We get our influenza vaccinations (in the past years for flu, swine, etc.) and aim to stay as warm as possible. At the end of the day though, even with vaccinations, there’s no guarantee you won’t be infected.
You may be heavily protected from diseases like tuberculosis or typhoid, but for the common cold (that’s not that common), there aren’t any real preventative measures. You could try to wash your hands constantly, take in vitamin C like a junkie and avoid sick people like they’re carrying the plague. Yet with over 200 types of colds out there, you’re not likely to bypass them all.
This is why a primary care doctor exist. Autumn is famous for bringing on the onslaught of running noses, sore throats, and resounding coughs. Luckily for us nowadays, we don’t need to die through it and resurrect two weeks later.
A lot of the time sick people ignore the symptoms claiming that they want to recover naturally, or they don’t have time to see the internist, or it’s too costly to heal otherwise. What they don’t realize though is that you can waste time, energy, and money trying to recuperate using that method. You might even worsen or extend your condition like that, especially if you don’t give your body enough rest.
Studies have shown that while vitamin C is good before a cold, it’s useless once you’re infected. (You can stop the OJ craze now.) Instead of spending your time fighting off illnesses, why not let medicine do it for you?
Walk-in clinics offer certified doctors who know what to give you (as opposed to you randomly perusing through aisle 13) and can do it at your convenience. You’ll still have your bank account afterwards and no doubt you’ll be able to get on with your life faster than you would have without going into a walk-in clinic. No waiting, no crazy charges, and a faster recovery rate than “natural healing”. Why wouldn’t you take the offer?
Change isn’t always the easiest to adjust to, but more than not, it can be for the better. You can start changing your sick habits this fall. Go along with the trend: changing leaves, changing temperatures, changing diets and clothing.
You don’t have to bother with the pain and stress of not mending fast enough. You just have to head into a walk in clinic in NYC and you’ll be set on to enjoy the rest of the season (sickness-free). If you need immediate help, our walk-in clinic is located at 274 Madison Ave, Suite 304, New York, NY, awaiting patients who want to recover. If you’d like more information, we also have a website at NYC medical office.

When your bronchitis is urgent enough to require you visiting an urgent care doctor?

Coughing always has a purpose, whether it occurs voluntarily or involuntarily. It’s a natural reflex against the things that sometimes block our breathing passage, whether it be flem, food and some foreign object (sometimes our own spit). Coughing requires a lot of air, both flowing in and flowing out. It’s when you can’t cough that you should really be worried!
But constant, violent exhalations of air can be troubling for people if it lasts for weeks. While everyone coughs, there are certain kinds of cough that should spur alarm. If you’re concerned, visit an urgent care clinic internist for an examination and some cough treatment medication.
But the quickest way to determining the seriousness of your cough is by looking at the duration of it. The American College of Chest Physicians break down coughs into three categories based on how long it lasts:
v  Acute Cough: lasts 3 weeks or less
v  Subacute Cough: lasts from 3-8 weeks
v  Chronic Cough: lasts longer than 2 months
What’s a little crazy about these categories is that the most minor cough, an acute one, can last for up to three weeks. Most of us would lose it after one week. They do note that these acute coughs usually calm down after the first week, and are usually the cause of the common cold. Thus if you’ve had a regular cough (absent of blood or other troubling substances) for more than a week you may take comfort in knowing that you have two more weeks before it’s considered serious, but could take even more comfort by visiting your primary care doctor and getting some cough reliever medication.
If your cough is lasting into the subacute category, the seriousness of it depends on how violent the coughing. You may have pertussis, or, the whooping cough, also nicknamed the 100 days cough as it can last for about as long. This is a bacterial infection that may go away on its own, but antibiotics are incredibly effective.
People with chronic cough suffer from more than a bacterial infection or the common cold. For example lifestyle conditions can cause chronic cough, especially in people who smoke. It also typically signals a condition that requires a long term treatment plan, for example people who have asthma or post navel drip may go in and out of treatment for coughing for most of their life. Figuring out the source of this cough is key to its treatment.
If you think it’s time to visit an urgent care doctor NYC to get bronchitis treatment in NYC, visit the clinic situated just blocks from a slew of subway lines: the B,F,D,M,S,4,5,6, and 7. It’s almost impossible not to get to. And you don’t have to wait days to get in to see a doctor. You can walk in and wait no more than 25 minutes or you can make a same day appointment by visiting their website Urgent Care NYC.
If your cough feels serious to you, or if you don’t want to wait 3 weeks before it’s deemed serious, get help today.

Three Facts to Know About UTI

Have you been experiencing a burning sensation during urination, or a frequent urge to urinate even though you’ve just been to the bathroom?  These are the most common symptoms of cystitis, known colloquially as a UTI.   A UTI is usually easy to treat but can also cause serious complications if ignored, so if you’re feeling the burn, check out these facts and see if you need to pay a visit to your doctor.

What is a UTI?
Also known as a lower urinary tract infection (UTI) is technically an inflammation of the bladder.  Symptoms include feeling the urge to urinate frequently, and pain or a burning sensation while urinating. Some people also experience lower back or pubic bone pain.  In the elderly and in infants, symptoms of an infection may not be as clear cut, so these populations should be checked for it especially when exhibiting incontinence or lethargy.
More than half of women experience this type of infection in their lifetime, but they’re a much rarer occurrence in men.  Most internist attribute this to the fact that women’s urethras are shorter, as well as the fact that the placement of the urethra is in close proximity to the vagina and anus causes it to come in increased contact with the causal bacteria.  A man’s risk of these types of infection increases with age, due to the growth of his prostate.

What is the cause?
The main bacteria that cause UTIs are E. coli.  Women can get them as a result of frequent sex, since E. coli, which normally lives in our intestines and solid waste, may come in contact with the urethra during sex.  The sexually transmitted infections chlamydia and mycoplasma can also cause these infections.  The use of spermicides, diaphragms and catheters all increase the risk of infection.  Pregnant women are also at an increased risk of infection due to the fluctuation of hormones.
In men a UTI may be indicative of a more serious problem like an obstruction in the urinary tract, and so should be checked out as soon as possible.

How is it treated?
Usually UTIs are not serious and can be treated by course of oral antibiotics. For most otherwise healthy women, a treated infection should clear up in about six days. However, these infections have a high recurrence rate, so it’s important to finish all prescribed antibiotics even if the symptoms have cleared.  Those prone to UTIs should also take preventative measures when possible.  Doctors recommend drinking plenty of water to dilute your urine and urinating after intercourse to prevent bacteria from taking hold. Women should also wipe from front to back and should not use deodorants, powders in the genital region, as they are known to irritate the urethra.  Some studies have shown that the use of cranberry juice or cranberry extract supports healthy bladder infection treatment.
If left untreated, it may lead to an upper urinary tract infection, or a kidney infection.  Symptoms of a kidney infection include frequent and painful urination, back pain, fever, nausea and vomiting, and cloudy or bloody urine, and could cause permanent kidney damage or blood infection, so proper treatment of a UTI to prevent its spread to the kidneys is key!

If you’re in the New York City area and think you’re experiencing signs of a UTI, consider making an appointment at the Walk-in Clinic of New York City.  Find Walk in Clinic in NYC you can get prompt, same-day medical attention for a UTI or a variety of other minor illnesses without breaking the bank, even if you don’t have insurance.  You can even make an appointment online at sexually transmitted infections.

The New Urgent Care Clinic Leaving Emergency Rooms in The Dust!

Even though life is running along smoothly we often entertain the thought of a deadly disease or at best an accident that will take us out of the game. It seems to be human nature to contemplate the negative. Sometimes as we snuggle under warm covers in bed at night attempting to fall asleep, our minds will take on the subject matter of a nightmare of Biblical proportions. What if I get hit by a bus? Is that pain in my back cancer of the spine? Can mosquitoes inject HIV into my veins when I get bit? All these questions and many more boil to the top of our conscious mind, making the simple act of falling asleep a Herculean task. It for this reason—and many others—that knowing the name and address of a certified, friendly, discreet and affordable urgent care clinic is such a good idea.

If you are unaware of the concept of the urgent care clinic, think hospital emergency room on steroids. An urgent care clinic is ready, willing and able to diagnose and treat any and all non life-threatening medical issues in the snap of a finger. A good urgent care clinic will pride itself on being there for you when you most need them and without the ridiculous wait that emergency rooms are infamous for.

Most days of the year you won’t call them—on those good days you won’t even think about them. Yet when you need them they will be there with the energy and expertise that you will be craving. We don’t prepare to sprain an ankle when we go out jogging—or especially when we go out for a leisurely stroll in the park. But sometimes it will happen. One moment you are fine, walking along like a gallant gent with nary a care in the world. The next moment you are crumpled on the floor, moaning in agony as you clutch desperately to your newly sprained joint. It is at now that you utilize the information you have coveted for so long, and get to your neighborhood medical office.

Sprained ankles come in many degrees. It is only a medical professional—like the primary care doctor at your urgent care clinic—that will know what type of sprain you are suffering from and what type of treatment is necessary to get you back up and strolling once again in the fastest and most effective way possible.

Since your urgent care clinic will be staffed by a certified internist (your genuine, every day, spent-a-ton-of-money-in-medical-school doctor), if in need of a prescription for pain relief—he will be there with his handy prescription pad to knock you off whatever miracle pill it is that will alleviate your pain. A good urgent care clinic doctor is able to diagnose and treat a myriad of problems. From the everyday sprained ankle to a bad back, to a case of conjunctivitis to a sour stomach, and beyond—you will receive the same care as you would in a hospital emergency room only in a smaller, more personal venue and at a better more affordable price. You never have to feel like a number again armed with the name of a good urgent care clinic. There, you will become part of the family and you will never be rushed or passed over when visiting.

If you happen to be in the NYC area, please log onto walk in clinic in NYC and click on the upper right hand side button that says walk in clinic. Some real advice on how to find out if you have bed bugs and when to visit a walk in clinic for treatment

Bed bugs do not discriminate. It doesn’t matter what neighborhood you live in or how often you clean, everybody’s home is capable of becoming infested with bed bugs. This is especially true if you live in New York City.
Once you think you have them, it can be a battle to prove it. There is a lot of bad advice online on what to do if you think you have bed bugs and whether you should visit a walk in clinic for bed bug treatment. So here’s some solid advice based on experience, not word of mouth.
For starters, many sites recommend looking at the types of bites on your skin to determine what kind of insect you were bitten by. People reference the “breakfast, lunch and dinner” eating habits of bed bugs, which refers to their tendency to bite people multiple times in one straight line. For the most part, this is true.
Any primary care doctor can tell you, people’s reactions to insect bites vary, which makes it very difficult to determine what kind of bug you are dealing with. Some people can have large, bright red bites that last for weeks, while others may barely notice the marks on their skin that disappear in less than a day. Beg bug bites also resemble other skin conditions, such as hives. Because of this, most doctors cannot confidently confirm you have bed bugs just by looking at the marks on your skin.
Another fallacy you’ll read is that you can determine if you have bed bugs by examining your mattress. It is true that bed bugs shed their skin, but their cast-off skins are incredibly hard to spot.  Their other droppings are also hard to see. They also almost never come out during the day. Because it is so difficult to notice their presence DO NOT IMMEDIATELY TRUST AN EXTERMINATOR’S INSPECTION IF THEY FIND NO SIGNS OF BED BUGS. Just because you don’t see them, doesn’t mean they aren’t there.
Unfortunately, the best way to convince an exterminator (and your landlord) that you have bed bugs is by catching them and storing them in a zip lock bag. This may mean staying awake and waiting for them to come out. Once you have a little sucker, compare it to photos online and then show your exterminator. If you are renting, your landlord is obliged by law to cover the extermination costs.
In the meantime, if your bites are driving you crazy because they are inflamed or are painfully itchy, you should visit a physician’s office. You doctor can prescribe strong medication that will decrease inflammation and ease the itchiness. Do not visit an internist if you are looking for a confirmation you have bed bugs, visit for skin treatment.
If you need bed bug treatment in Manhattan for your skin, visit this walk in clinic located at 274 Madison Ave, right by two major subway spots, Bryant Park and Grand Central. You’ll meet with a professional, certified physician who will seriously look over your skin and offer advice on what he thinks it might be before prescribing treatment medication. Log onto urgent care clinic NYC to make a same day appointment, or, just walk in!
Fighting bed bugs doesn’t have to be hard, but it helps to have good advice.

The Top Three Causes Why A Walkin Clinic Beats the Competitors

How countless of you will have observed of the walk in clinic? Just a number of, we suppose. We usually do not understand why due to the fact it truly is the very best solution to get medical treatment as of late in the event you tend not to possess a private physician. It is just that at times items fall via the cracks. A stroll in clinic can be a extremely qualified healthcare facility devoted to taking care of any illness or injury you might have at a fraction in the price that is usually connected with non-public physicians and/or healthcare facility crisis space visits.

In the days of aged one would simply dial their personal physician’s telephone quantity (on those massive rotary dial telephones considering the fact that mobile phones had been far from existing). The doctor would then pick up their bag and travel more than for your dwelling to deal with you. We all know!? Insane, perfect? Due to the fact there isn't any way on the planet (apart from having a son/daughter or mother/father medical doctor within your family members) that any physician will push over for your home whenever you really feel unwell, the urgent care clinic has arisen to take the place of these old time familial doctors.

You will discover three principal causes why someone who's sick or wounded ought to pay a visit to a stroll in clinic as opposed to heading to their nearest hospital crisis space. The first could be the wait time. Inside a walk in clinic the physician is dedicated to viewing you in most likely less than the usual half an hour. Think about this timeframe against the unfortunate occasions which you needed to take a look at a hospital emergency space. Chances are you currently sat there for a number of hours, fiddling your ill thumbs and sighing uncontrollably. A hospital unexpected emergency space is there for one particular key purpose-and that purpose is EMERGENCIES. Should you ever before have a heart attack or are bitten by a shark although fishing this could be the spot to go. For all other non life-threatening health problems and wounds get your self to a stroll in clinic.

The 2nd purpose is the cost. An internist who opens a walk in clinic is devoted to his oath in strategies which can be numerous occasions hard to clarify. They're happy to create a good living, but they usually do not go out of their option to wrangle every last impeccable and dime from their individuals. They are pleased to offer the services that they do to their communities in ways that often times transcend mere monetary causes. Probabilities are you currently will identify reasonably priced prices at your welcoming neighborhood walk in clinic.

The third reason would be the quantity of experience the doctors at an typical walk in clinic have in dealing with the sorts of wounds and ailments that their individuals are probably to obtain. The doctors in a walk in clinic are a lot more like the medical doctors of old that will execute home phone calls, than the forms of medical doctors that presently function in massive bureaucratic hospital establishments, however they may be ensconced in their easy-to-reach state-of-the-art health care offices. There is certainly anything awesome to be mentioned for viewing exactly the same patients more than and over again. The chances of you sticking using a fine stroll in clinic doctor are really high, the moment you get to determine for your self the type of therapy you get plus the prices they cost.

For those of us in New York City who need a great walk in clinic to treat any ailment they may have, please log onto Walk In Clinic NYC or simply call 1-212-696-5900 to speak to a staff member to make a convenient appointment. Urgent Care Clinic NYC  is located just two blocks from Grand Central Station, making it very easy to get to by either train or bus. Think you have an ankle sprain? Visit our urgent care doctor for a proper diagnosis

Athletes and everyday gym goers acquire multiple injuries throughout their lives, one of the most common being an ankle sprain. Yet it can be hard to tell on your own if the pain you feel is due to a sprain or something more serious. The best way to find out is by visiting an urgent care doctor who can properly examine your ankle and the muscles around it.

A sprain, in general, is a when you stretch and/or tear your ligaments, which are the tough tissues that connect your cartilage and bones; they are our body parts “connectors.” A sprain also involves a strain in the muscle nearby. You can get a sprain from any kind of over exerted turn, twist or roll that tears the ligament.
There are multiple types of sprain, but the most common is called an inversion sprain, where your ankle literally turns over in a way that forces the sole of your foot to face inwards. This damages the ligaments on the outside of the ankle, and causes painful bruising, swelling and tenderness. As with any sprain you will struggle to move your ankle normally and will feel pain when putting weight down on your foot.

If after reading this description leads you to believe the source of your pain is indeed from an ankle sprain, you must act immediately. Apply the RICE method first, meaning Rest, Ice, Compress and Elevate. For Rest, cease exercising and stay off your foot as much as possible. Use crutches if you have them. When you Ice the area do not do so for more than 15-20 minutes at a time, and do so about every 2 hours the first day of the injury. For Compress you can buy great elastic bandages that will hold the muscle in place. And finally, try and Elevate your leg as much as possible, even propping it up while you’re at work and eating dinner. The RICE method is used for most muscle sprains and injuries, and is effective in decreasing swelling and inflammation.
